International Women's Day celebration in Kabul, Afghanistan: 12 March 2013

The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) organized a meeting in Kabul to coordinate efforts to promote greater participation by women in politics. The meeting, attended by women's rights activists and the Independent Election Commission, discussed the challenges and obstacles facing women's participation in the upcoming election.

 Senior Afghan Government representatives, parliamentarians and rights activists discussed problems faced by the Afghan women, at a one-day conference in Kabul, today. Speaking at the conference, supported by UN agencies and the Japan aid agency (JICA), the Minister for Public Health, Dr. Suraiya Dalil cited a significant progress made in reducing the maternal mortality rate in Afghanistan which has dropped from 1,600 per 100,000 live births in 2001 to 327 now.

Press Conference on Launching "We believe in Balloons" International Arts Collective Campaign in Kabul: 18 February 2013

Afghan artists and volunteers launched today “We Believe in Balloons”, an international peace campaign, to unite thousands of people in Kabul with the aim of bringing arts, not war, to the streets of the Afghan capital. The organizers plan to hand out 10,000 pink balloons to commuters on their way to work on 23 February.

 Over 250 Afghan men and women marched today in the capital, Kabul, demanding an end to violence against women in Afghanistan. The Kabul march was organized as part of the “One Billion Rising” global campaign to protect women and girls from violence. In his message, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the campaign must trigger action.

Electricity supply from Iran to Herat, Nimroz and Farah provinces of Afghanistan: 27 January 2013

This morning in Kabul, Mohammad Ismail Khanl, the Minister of Energy and Water, along with Majeed Namjoo, his Iranian Counterpart, sign an agreement for an electricity supply to run from Iran to Herat, Nimroz and Farah provinces of Afghanistan.
