International Women's Day celebration in Kabul, Afghanistan: 12 March 2013
The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) organized a meeting in Kabul to coordinate efforts to promote greater participation by women in politics. The meeting, attended by women's rights activists and the Independent Election Commission, discussed the challenges and obstacles facing women's participation in the upcoming election.

Senior Afghan Government representatives, parliamentarians and rights activists discussed problems faced by the Afghan women, at a one-day conference in Kabul, today. Speaking at the conference, supported by UN agencies and the Japan aid agency (JICA), the Minister for Public Health, Dr. Suraiya Dalil cited a significant progress made in reducing the maternal mortality rate in Afghanistan which has dropped from 1,600 per 100,000 live births in 2001 to 327 now.
