International Youth Day concert in Bamyan

Thousands of Afghans thronged to Bamyan province in Afghanistan’s central highlands on Thursday to watch a UNAMA-organized concert to mark the International Youth Day (12 August). The four-hour concert featured traditional music as well as blues, rap, pop and hard rock songs – all performed by Afghan singers and musicians. The message of the day was a rousing call for Afghans to work shoulder-to-shoulder to achieve national unity and peace. 

Young people today belong to the largest generation of youth the world has ever known. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has encouraged UN Member States, youth-led organizations and other stakeholders to act to promote the rights of all young people and maximize the development potential of youth around the world. Over two-thirds of Afghan population is estimated to be under 25 years of age.
