International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action marked in Kabul: 3 April 2013


The Government of Afghanistan and United Nations agencies today marked the International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action (which falls on 4 April) in the capital, Kabul, with a ceremony which included speeches, performances and displays of mines and explosive remnants of war. The devices still pose a serious threat to Afghans, with an average of 30 casualties currently recorded each month.

To appreciate and encourage “Kabul’s Pioneer Women for the Year” in connection with the celebrations of International Women’s Day, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) organized a colourful and modest ceremony in Kabul on Thursday. Several women were given awards and appreciation certificates for their extraordinary performances in their respective fields.
