The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) of Afghanistan: 4 November 2013

The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) of Afghanistan is
currently adjudicating complaints filed by individuals who unsuccessfully
sought to register as candidates for next year’s Presidential and
Provincial Council elections, slated for 5 April. The IECC is due to
publish a final list of candidates on 16 November. The Secretary-General’s
Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ján Kubiš, said last week that the
Afghans expect these elections “to be better than the previous elections,”
given their great interest “in the election through the political process
and supporting different candidates and different political parties.”
