Kabul riot caused by ISAF (USA) accident

On May 29, 2006, a number of American military vehicles coming from Qara Bagh district ran over a large number of civilian vehicles while en route to Kabul. The American convoy was finally stopped in Sara e Shamali, Khair Khana by the people curious to know why the Americans had committed such an act. Soon the argument turned into a violent clash between the by-passing civilians and American forces which escalated after the interference of Afghan national Police who shot at the civilians. This reaction on behalf of the Afghan police enraged the civilians and they attacked the police and burned their numerous security checkpoints while on their way to the center of town. According to the available information, the number of casualties reached 30 dead, 60 wounded on the Afghan side and 12 dead on the American side aided by the ISAF forces.
